Strategic Statement on the Hospital Debate
Under the Axis Strategy™ division, Founder Amos Ashley offers the following reflection on the ongoing local hospital debate in Albury-Wodonga:
“Before anything else, I want to sincerely thank both the Federal and State Governments—of Victoria and New South Wales—for continuing to fund, manage, and operate a functioning hospital service for our region. We must first acknowledge that we do have access to care, professional medical teams, and essential infrastructure—something many parts of the world still lack. That is no small thing.
I also wish to extend my apology to both state health departments and their respective Ministers for the manner in which hospital development negotiations have unfolded in our region. While the intent behind the public push has often been sincere—driven by real concern and urgency—the approach has lacked the strategic alignment necessary to build momentum and deliver outcomes that benefit all parties.
I have a deep love for our region and a genuine respect for our local leaders and representatives. But I believe it's time we move beyond the cycle of protest and rejection. Protesting alone does not build hospitals. In fact, it risks casting our region as a political burden rather than a strategic partner in the nation’s progress.
If we’re serious about securing a new hospital—and I believe we absolutely should be—we need to think bigger, smarter, and longer-term. We must ask: What does the government need from us in return? What can we offer that makes investment here strategically worthwhile?
This is where real progress begins—not in louder demands, but in stronger proposals. The path forward is not more noise, but more strategy: creative thinking, structured alignment, and a shared vision so compelling it cannot be ignored.
And so, I leave our community with this question: What would we be willing to give, contribute, or adjust to secure a new hospital for our future generations? If the answer is ‘nothing,’ then we must be honest about the result. But if the answer is ‘time, energy, creative effort, and the willingness to strategically align,’ then I believe our goal is absolutely within reach.”
